Washington's Cool Cities Campaign

What is the Washington's Cool Cities Campaign?
In the next few decades, Washington State will need to find new sources of electricity as our towns and cities continue to grow, our hydro-electric system becomes more unreliable, and the threat of global warming is witnessed in our snow pack reduction and periods of drought. We suffer from respiratory diseases largely caused by tailpipe emissions, the largest contributor in our state to global warming. At a time when our federal administration is stalling on working with the international community to tackle global warming, our local communities can make the choice to invest in clean and smart energy solutions. Hybrid cars, renewable energy such as wind and solar, and energy efficiency in public buildings and private homes are attainable solutions to reduce global warming emissions.
Washington cities can be a part of a national solution and a new energy future by signing the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and implementing a plan to reduce global warming. All Washington cities have the ability to be a part of the solution by using clean energy technology that lowers energy bills, creates new jobs, and helps ensure a clean environment for future generations.
Washington's Cool Cities Campaign is calling on Governor Gregoire and the mayors of Bellevue and Mercer Island to be leaders for our state’s new energy future by ensuring new energy demands are met with clean, smart solutions and not coal plants or coal-generated power.
