Karen Willard: State Representative #1, District 31
Karen Willard has been a political and church activist the last several years in east Pierce County, where she lives with her husband near the town of Wilkeson. She has gotten so fed up with things in her legislative district, as well as nationwide, that she decided to run for the House herself. Her conservative “do nothing” opponent, Dan Roach, scored an “F” on the Sierra Club 2005 Legislative Report card and barely a “C” for 2006.
Willard strongly opposes Initiative 933 and supports Initiative 937. She is working with residents of Bonney Lake to save the huge fifty-year-old WSU forest that was sold to a large timber/homebuilding company for residential development. The incumbent has done nothing to prevent the loss of this cherished forest, and has even accepted a big campaign donation from the development company. Willard will be a good, ethical voice for the environment in Olympia.
