Mt. Rainier Backpack ~ Northern Loop of the Wonderland Trail

 SEPTEMBER 3 - 6, 2011

Join the Sierra Club on this Northern Loop backpack of Mt. Rainier's Wonderland Trail.  We will travel about 33 miles over 3 days, starting out at Sunrise. This trip is rated strenuous due to the elevation gain & loss, travel on snowfields, and length. Route takes us across across Skyscraper Pass, gaining 2154'. See the Yellowstone Cliffs and natural bridge. We will travel west through Spray Park to Mowich Lake to our exit trailhead. Vehicle will be left at Mowich Lake to shuttle back to Sunrise to pick up vehicles from the starting point. 

Meeting location is the Enumclaw US Forest Service Station on SR 410, 1 pm on Saturday Sept. 3. Park entry fee or pass required for vehicles at the trailheads.

Trip requires good hiking boots, backpack, sleeping bag & tent, pad, water filter, eating utensils and participants bring your own lunch munchies for 3 days. Hiking poles required for creek crossings due to bridge and footlog washouts from the devastating 2006 floods. Leader will bring rope & ice axe for Skyscraper Pass, backpack stove & cook kit, and water filter. Included in trip are the dinner and breakfast meal basics. 

Trip cost of $35 per person for backcountry campsite reservation fee & meals. Sign-up deadline is August 28, 2011.
