Brian Sullivan: County Council #2, Snohomish County

Brian Sullivan has a long, outstanding record of working with other leaders at the state, county, local, and national levels on environmental issues. As state representative for the 21st district, he chairs the Committee on Agriculture & Natural Resources and has earned consistently excellent environmental voting grades (see his voting report card here). Rep. Sullivan co-sponsored the Oil Spills Bill in the state Legislature and serves on the Select Committee on Puget Sound, a group that is involved in toxic cleanup efforts.

Rep. Sullivan supports Sound Transit, the Cascade Land Conservancy, the Sierra Club "Checkerboard" Project, and many other positive efforts to protect and preserve the land, air, and water of our region. He is in favor of "transfer development rights," an innovative effort to reduce urban sprawl, as well as the Global Climate Initiative. Rep. Sullivan is a member of the Puget Sound Straits Coalition, meets regularly with members of the environmental community, and heads the "Snohomish County Tomorrow" program, a growth management effort supported by the cities of Snohomish County and the Tulalip Tribes. He has also been committed to the "Green Highways Bill" for Interstates 82, 90, and 5.

Snohomish County must plan carefully for the expected 200,000 new residents who will be moving into the area over the next decade or two. As a Snohomish County Council member, Brian Sullivan can help deal with this population increase in an environmentally responsible manner.
