Paul Dennis: Mayor, Camas

As Mayor, Paul Dennis has successfully met several challenges in balancing growth versus quality of life. Accomplishments include updating the city’s critical area ordinances, setting aside over 90 acres of parks and open space land, and completion of the Washougal River Greenway. Paul’s administration is currently working on upgrades to the sewer plant that will result in Grade A bio-solids for reuse in city parks, citywide tree standards and preservation of significant trees, adopting a new 20 Year Parks/Open space/Trail Plan to set aside hundreds of acres of Parks and Open space as well as developing 50 more miles of trails, and preservation of the North Shore of Lacamas Lake and clean-up of Lacamas Lake.

Before being elected as Mayor, Paul served on the Camas City Council for over six years, working with the community on a number of significant topics, such as the Citywide Comprehensive Plan Update and Shoreline Management Program.

Paul has been an economic development consultant for over 17 years, advising communities throughout the Pacific Northwest on growth issues, economic revitalization, quality of life, fiscal planning, job recruitment and retention, and capital facilities planning. Major projects include creating an economic model for The Nature Conservancy in Skagit County Washington and land use and financial planning of Portland’s Pearl District. Currently, Paul is developing an economic and financial model for the State Washington on Brownfield redevelopment.

Paul enjoys spending time with his family camping, taking walks and biking along the community trails, and playing in the park.
