Larry Smith: City Council #5, Vancouver

Larry Smith has served as Director of Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department for many years, constructing over 40 park projects throughout the county. In addition he encouraged and supported the hiring of a Sustainability Manager for the City, assisted in obtaining a state grant for Burnt Bridge Creek trail and wetlands, supported LEED certification for the Hilton hotel and Firstenburg Community Center projects, and approved and funded Water Treatment Facilities upgrades. Larry is also proud that the City has done some upgrading of Public Works vehicles to environmentally friendly models and that City business plans reflect partnership with the environment.

Larry’s goals for the future of Vancouver include increasing park acreage and development to include open space, partnering more effectively with the Parks Foundation for funding opportunities, and increasing public access to the waterfront. Additionally, he wants the city to maintain the highest standards in our public water system and to begin the incorporation of environmentally friendly standards into our building codes.
