Dan Tonkovich: City Council #6, Vancouver

Dan Tonkovich is a seasoned member of the Vancouver City Council who is seeking re-election this fall. From his efforts to create new regional and neighborhood parks and open spaces to his support for ordinances to protect our groundwater and sensitive habitat, Dan has always considered environmental concerns at the top of his priority list when evaluating new city ordinances. He sought assurances that new city projects, such as the Water Resource Education Center, the Firstenburg Community Center, and the Hilton Hotel and Convention Center, would be developed with sensitivity in design and construction.

Dan’s thoughtful approach to policy-making and his long-term commitment to balanced development have made him a very effective leader in city government. Dan’s environmental focus over the next four years will be on making certain that the area inside Vancouver’s urban growth boundary, but not yet in the city limits, is adequately planned. Dan realizes that the city is not the only agency responsible for the planning of that area; therefore, he will also be focused on making sure the city cultivates a healthy working relationship and a shared vision with Clark County. He welcomes the opportunity to work with the Sierra Club to insure policies that protect the quality of life we all value.
