John Ladenburg (D): Attorney General
Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg, candidate for State Attorney General and former four-term elected Prosecutor, has received the endorsement of the Sierra Club in the race against Rob McKenna.
“John Ladenburg has a fine record on the environment over his many years of public service. His leadership cleaning up illegal dumpsites and taking on the EPA, forcing them to clean up polluted wells are prime examples. John Ladenburg will staunchly defend the environment and we are proud to offer him our endorsement and support,” says Trevor Kaul, Sierra Club, Cascade Chapter Director.
Ladenburg’s notable environmental accomplishments began with his service on the Tacoma City Council where he led in improving water quality and in energy conservation and efficiency. He has won awards on numerous occasions. On May 1, 2008 John received the Cascade Land Conservancy's "Cascade Agenda Leadership Award." In 2006, John received the highest award of the National Association of Counties for his hard work cleaning up illegal dumpsites in Pierce County. His innovative program, "Pierce County Responds," has become a national model. To date, the program has cleaned up all the dump sites and collected and recycled some 10,000 abandoned cars.
John has led the way in salmon recovery efforts, receiving two awards from the Puget Sound Partnership for his efforts to restore and enhance habitat. Working closely with the Puyallup tribe, John helped fund important set-back levies on the Puyallup River that have the dual effect of increasing habitat and controlling flooding by providing additional storage during flood events.
John Ladenburg pledges to stay tough on polluters by aggressively prosecuting violators and strictly interpreting environmental regulations. “I am putting polluters on notice that anyone caught willfully violating environmental regulations will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” says Ladenburg.
