Sauk Mountain - A North Cascades Rendezvous & Campout Scheduled Hike

Saturday, September 20th, 10:45 am - 4:00 pm

The Sauk Mountain hike is the classic "Sound of Music" hike. The hike travels up a series of gentle switchbacks mostly in meadow but occasionally in forest. The wildflower shows on the trail are so impressive that plant society's take their clubs up the trail. Although the wildflower shows will be mostly over by mid September a special treat awaits us at the top of the mountain. We will be able to see impressive views in all directions. The Skagit River lies directly below to the west. In the late-afternoon sun, the Skagit River shimmers and gleams as it meanders toward its junction with Puget Sound. Also from the top we can see much of the roadless areas north of the Skagit River still awaiting protection as wilderness. Among the peaks visible from the top are Mount Baker, the Twin Sisters Range, Mount Shuksan, the Picket Range, Hidden Lake Peak, Glacier Peak, White Chuck and White Horse, and the peaks of the Cascade Pass area.
