Al Rose (D): County Council #2, Pierce County
Al Rose is currently a Pierce County prosecutor in the Civil Division and is running for an open County Council seat in District 2 being vacated by Calvin Goings. Roses’ priorities as a council member would be to improve public safety, improve efficiency and accountability on the use of tax dollars, and improve the management of growth including the preservation of open space and farmland.
He personally is a committed to living and promoting the environment and sustainability. He supports greening the building codes and promoting more local economic development to keep residents working locally instead of commuting to Seattle/King Co. He strongly believes in maintaining Urban Growth Boundaries and in developing urban villages to promote increased urban densities. He supports updating and implementing codes to protect critical areas and to reduce storm water discharge into Puget Sound. He wants to increase the recycling of building materials and appliances.
Al Rose's opponent is Rep. Joyce McDonald (Rep. 25th Dist.) whose Washington Conservation Voters lifetime environmental rating is low, at a score of 37. She lacks the necessary knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and the workings of county government to be an effective County Council Member.
Al Rose would make a fine, competent County Council Member who would support our environmental priorities.
