Dow Constantine: County Executive, King County

The Cascade Chapter for the Sierra Club has endorsed King County Council chair Dow Constantine to fill the vacancy left behind by Ron Sims. At something like 6 foot 4, and as a champion for the environment, Ron certainly left some big shoes to fill.
There is no doubt that Dow Constantine is up to the task. Dow has earned his own stripes as an environmental champion who helped lead the way to our successful 2008 light rail package (Prop 1) and stood up to a multinational mining company targeting a marine reserve (Maury Island) in the Puget Sound. In fact, the Sierra Club has been proud to work side by side with Dow for the past several years as a member of the King County Council and, before that, in the State Legislature.
Dow Constantine shares our values of community and environment. He is a steadfast and proven leader for protecting our cherished natural environment and taking on the challenges presented by global warming. Dow not only has the strongest record, he has a clear vision for the future, including promoting clean technology jobs, investing in transit solutions and building better communities.
On the other hand, his opponent is conservative former news anchor Susan Hutchison. She has never held public office, hasn’t stated a clear position on global warming, and despite her claim to work with environmentalists, has yet to do so in anyway.
All of the challenges facing our state, our cities, and our neighborhoods are opportunities to build a better, smarter, and cleaner Washington. And, with the looming threat of global warming, King County needs a strong leader and it needs one now. Dow has a long history of environmental achievement. We know where he stands, and can count on him to listen to the people and provide leadership that will take us in the right direction, protecting and enhancing our quality of life.
