Monica Stonier: State Representative #2, District 17
Monica Stonier is running for State Senator, position 2, in the 17th district. Deb Wallace previously held this position. Deb asked Monica to run for her seat and Monica carries the endorsements by a host of current and past elected officials, many of whom have also received Sierra Club endorsement. She is endorsed by the Washington State Labor Council, Vancouver Firefighters Local 452, The National Women's Political Caucus of Washington, Evergreen Education Association, and other organizations.
Monica is a first time candidate and her strength is in education and labor. She currently is a Master teacher at Pacific Middle School.
Monica was impressive to us in a variety of ways. She is well spoken, organized, and an incredible thinker and assessor. She would be able to work well in a team, find mentors as a new legislator, and approach her district’s issues thoughtfully.
She is pro light rail, interested in transportation infrastructure and a supporter of public lands and open spaces for the next generation.
Monica was one of the first candidates to approach us for an endorsement and carries a lot of enthusiasm. She looks to us as part of the constituency she is interested in representing and wants to work with the Sierra Club to gain information on environmental legislation issues.
