Cindy Ryu: State Representative #1, District 32
Cindy Ryu has a demonstrated history of environmental and civic leadership. First elected to the Shoreline City council in 2005, Cindy was elevated to the position of Mayor by her fellow city council members in 2008. Her long list of achievements include adopting an Environmental Sustainability Strategy, building a LEED Silver (aiming for Gold) City Hall with solar panels and a “green” roof, an Environmental Mini-Grants Program to support neighborhood efforts, and much more.
Cindy’s smiling demeanor masks a steely resolve. Whether lobbying for project funding, promoting Low Impact Development or establishing the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Green Business Program, her ability to persuade is impressive.
Cindy is a long-time supporter of the Shoreline Solar Project, actively involved in planning and helping to fund the annual Solar Fest and other programs. Her commitment to parks and open spaces, as well as her efforts to improve and protect Shoreline’s urban forest canopy further demonstrate that environmentalism is more than just a slogan to her. “Responsible stewardship of our environment must be woven into every decision we make,” she states. “It is the legacy we will leave to our children and future generations.” As a Korean-American woman who is able to trace her ancestors back almost 1000 years, Cindy believes we must allow an equally long, 1000 year view to inform the decisions we make today.
