Jake Fey: State Representative #1, District 27
Posted on June 26, 2010 - 3:39pm
In his five-plus year tenure on the Tacoma City Council, Jake Fey has led the Council to establish Tacoma’s Green Ribbon Task Force on Climate Change (GRTF) to reduce the City’s carbon footprint beyond Kyoto Protocol goals. Furthermore, he led the effort to get the Council to adopt all the recommendations of the GRTF including a two-year action plan in July 2008, which is nearly fully accomplished. Early last year, with the leadership of Mr. Fey, the City established its Office of Sustainability and the Sustainable Tacoma Commission, a citizens’ oversight body to keep the City on target to meet its sustainability goals. Also within the last year, he spearheaded the passage of a revised ordinance on “Mixed Use Centers” and the newly established “Complete Streets” ordinance to help facilitate the orderly densification of Tacoma. Mr. Fey has many years of experience on energy issues and conservation, working as a staffer with the State Energy Office, serving on the Tacoma Public Utilities Board and Governor Gregoire’s Climate Action Team, and working in his current day job for WSU Extension as Energy Program Director. His election to this seat in the 27th District will provide us a strong established environmental advocate in the House.
