Erik Hanberg: City Parks Commission #5, Tacoma
Posted on October 1, 2011 - 10:58am
Commissioner Hanberg was appointed nearly two years ago to fill a vacancy on the TMP Board with the support of the Sierra Club Tatoosh Group and Pierce Conservation Voters. He was born and raised in Tacoma. He used the parks extensively growing up. He has taken a special interest in the parks and park system after returning to Tacoma after graduating with a B.A. from Carlton College in Minnesota a few years ago. He has visited every single park and ball field in the City to fully comprehend the value of having all these great assets in Tacoma and is determined to maintain and improve both the passive natural and recreational parks. Commissioner Hanberg is currently the Executive Director of the City Club of Tacoma, and was a writer and a partner for a popular Tacoma website, Exit 133. During his time on the Park Board, he has advocated for clean, green, and safe parks. He successfully advocated for policy and practice changes to reduce the TMP’s carbon footprint. He has worked to be a good steward of the public's lands and the public's dollars. His presence on the Board brings more of a fresh young perspective to an older Board. The Sierra Club strongly endorses Erik Hanberg for the TMP Board Position 5.
