Dean Willard: County Port Commission #5, King County
Posted on October 12, 2011 - 7:24pm
Sierra Club supports Dean Willard for Seattle Port Commission, position 5. Dean will be a champion for environmental and economic justice. While the Port of Seattle has been reluctant to fully commit to a Duwamish clean up effort, Dean is fighting to make sure the Port works to restore this marine habitat for the health of South Park, Georgetown, other communities along the Duwamish, and Puget Sound. He is pushing the Port to eliminate stormwater runoff from contaminated Port property. Dean will fight to reduce the carbon footprint of Port operations by replacing gasoline engines with electric power and requiring all ships to use electricity or alternative cleaner fuel options while docked. Dean will also push for environmentally friendly on-dock sewage treatment options for cruise ships.
