Kathleen Drew: Secretary of State
Kathleen has substantial experience in Olympia, initially as a State Senator (1993-1997) representing the 5th Legislative District and more recently as a Policy Advisor to Governor Gregoire. Kathleen has advised the Governor on sustainability and streamlining government, authored the State’s Ethics in Public Service Law, and helped build the University of Washington Bothell campus into the largest branch campus in the state.
Significant endorsements are numerous including the Washington State Labor Council, National Organization for Women, EMILY’S LIST, NARAL Pro-choice Washington, and King, Pierce, Snohomish and many other County Democratic Party organizations, 25 Legislative District organizations, 35 State Senators and Representatives, members of the King County and other county and city Councils.
Given her experience, she is a solid candidate for the position. She indicated her support of making registration and voting easier, not harder, and increasing voter participation across the state and all segments of the population. She also mentioned her support for Election Day registration, reaching out to young people to get them registered, and improving access to ballot drop boxes by increasing their number and specifically locating some on college campuses. The Sierra Club believes Kathleen Drew has a good handle on the content of the office she’s seeking and are proud to endorse her candidacy.
