Proposition 1 Parks Levy: Vote YES (Local Initiative, Seattle)
The Washington State Chapter of the Sierra Club has endorsed the King County Parks Levy (Proposition 1) renewal in the August 6th primary election.
The Parks Levy is a renewal of two expiring levies supporting the over 200 parks and 175 miles of regional trails that comprise the King County Parks system. Proposition 1 will:
- Keep our parks and trails clean, open and safe;
- Complete missing links in regional trail system;
- Pay for critical repairs and maintenance;
- Fund local city parks and Woodland Park Zoo.
This levy makes up over 70 percent of parks funding and if we allow it to run out at year’s end, our parks and trails will be in serious jeopardy.
Let’s do our part to make sure that doesn’t happen. The Parks Levy is running a modest campaign – using endorsements and mailing lists like ours to get the word out about this essential renewal – but broadening awareness and getting out the vote for August 6 comes with a price. Please visit the campaign website at www.yesforourparks.com to make a contribution online if you are able. You can also find more information on the levy, contact the campaign or get involved there as well.
Time is short and August is coming up right around the corner, let’s make sure we protect our green spaces and ensure that this important natural legacy will be there for future generations.
