Dow Constantine: County Council #8, King County
Dow Constantine’s commitment to conservation is demonstrated in his work as a state legislator and King County Council member. He led the difficult but successful update of county development rules under the Growth Management Act.
“You can often gauge a candidate by his enemies,” said Kevin Fullerton, Seattle Group chair. “And Dow has plenty among anti-environment groups. While he was supporting the Critical Areas Ordinance process, he had to fight off a nuisance recall petition filed by folks who just seem to have no interest in the quality of our common air and water.”
Despite legal attacks against him by international mining interests, Constantine has been steadfast in his opposition to a massive mine on Vashon/Maury Islands. He co-chairs the WRIA 9 Steering Committee, which developed the Green/Duwamish salmon recovery plan. A long-time open space advocate, he recently helped protect 237 acres of state resource land on Vashon.
