Parks Proposition 1: Vote YES (Local Proposition, Tacoma)
The Tatoosh Executive Committee voted unanimously to support an $84.3 million parks improvement bond on the November ballot. Affecting residents of Tacoma, Browns Point and Dash Point, the levy is essential for park maintenance and improvement. The allocation by park can be seen at www.yesparks.com/projectList.htm. Last year, a similar bond issue, also endorsed by the Tatoosh Group, just missed the 60% threshold required for approval.
The bulk of the funds will finance much-needed improvements to the 68 parks, playfields and community centers throughout Tacoma. Funds will be used to protect streams, lakes and natural areas such as Swan Creek and Snake Lake. If successful, the measure will cost the average Tacoma homeowner an additional $34 a year in property taxes or less than a dime a day. It has been 20 years since Tacoma’s parks and community centers have received upgrades, and many are decades old and falling into disrepair. The levy will cover timely improvements and avoid costly repairs in the future.
