Joan McGilton: City Council #3, Burien
Joan McGilton is running for re-election for Burien Council. She has been an environmental engineer for 21 years, and prior to 1984, a marine educator and diving officer for the Seattle Aquarium.
One priority for her as a council member has been sustainable building practices. She pushed for language urging aggressive low-impact development design action in the Surface Water Management Plan. She also advocated LEED Silver standards for Town Square construction.
McGilton is a founding board member of the Environmental Science Center, a nonprofit dedicated to educating the public regarding near-shore aquatic, shoreline and upland ecosystems. She completed WSU's Land and Water Stewards program in 2002.
