Maureen McCarry: City Council #5, Issaquah
McCarry’s primary objective as a City Council member will be to defeat a proposed city bypass highway and find a more sensible solution for Issaquah’s traffic problems. The bypass proposal threatens to despoil Tiger Mountain, pollute Issaquah’s drinking water aquifer and deprive it of recharge.
She believes greater public education is necessary to inform citizens of the toxic impacts of new development and use of household chemicals.
McCarry wants the city to purchase a 40-acre tract that allows access to trailheads for Squawk Mountain. She will also support mixed use, high density development where appropriate, and supports the effort to extend fixed light rail to connect Issaquah to Seattle.
