Derek Kilmer: State Senator, District 26
As a freshman representative, Kilmer supported the Sierra Club’s top priorities in the last two sessions – including the clean car and green building bills – though he did not support a ban on PBDE’s. He’s running against the opponent he narrowly defeated two years ago in this split district -- hard-right, anti-environmental Lois McMahan.
Kilmer has expanded his base by championing a much-needed hospital in the Gig Harbor area. He’s been able to win over voters who favor economic development but with strong consideration and support for the Growth Management Act and other environmental protections. We predict he’ll be a strong and enduring supporter of Sierra Club priorities in the Senate.
