Karen Keiser: State Senator, District 33
Karen is an effective advocate for the citizens of the 33rd District, representing the cities of Des Moines, Kent, SeaTac, Burien and Normandy Park.
She is running for re-election to the Senate after serving one term, and previously served three terms in the House. She has 11 years of experience in the Legislature and has always had a solid, strong record of support for the environment. In her community's fight over the SeaTac Airport’s third runway, Senator Keiser fought successfully for high levels of environmental mitigation and monitoring of local creeks and watersheds.
She also worked to bring attention to the contamination of a large part of her district bordering Puget Sound by the "Asarco plume." High levels of arsenic deposits had been discovered in parks and playgrounds. Efforts to remove and contain the contamination are now underway.
Senator Keiser also helped pass into law important bills such as Green Building standards, Clean Car standards and Puget Sound clean-up efforts.
