John Austin: County Commission, Jefferson County
John believes that our government has a strong responsibility to serve as a steward of our natural environment. National Parks, Wilderness Areas, and wisely managed forest lands are essential to the maintenance of our country's natural beauty, wildlife, and healthy environment.
In Jefferson County he is opposed to the pit to pier mining project for a number of reasons: increased risk to endangered marine species through pollution, visual and noise pollution, risk of damage to the floating bridge with the consequent harm to the economy of the Olympic Peninsula.
John believes in the protection of wildlife corridors, the protection of streams and rivers, and in educating the public about the benefits of environmentally sound policies.
