STEHEKIN WINTER WONDERLAND SNOWSHOE WEEKEND

Friday, January 18th, 5:00 am - 7:00 pm

Imagine playing in the snow at night with a full moon overhead. Here is a chance to take the Lady of the Lake for a boat trip up Lake Chelan, surrounded by the North Cascades peaks, to the historic town of Stehekin, accessible only by boat. We will stay at the picturesque Stehekin Log Cabin for a long lazy weekend between snowshoe treks and exploration of Stehekin and the surrounding area. After a summer of fires, Stehekin has become a winter wonderland once again.

Trip cost is $325 for 2, and includes weekend parking, round trip boat fare, 2 night's lodging in the Log Cabin, dinner and breakfast. Log cabin has 3 bedrooms, woodstove, living room, dining room, and kitchen. Maximum number to go is 9 unless you would like a separate private cabin or single room in the big lodge. We will take a Saturday night snowshoe walk. Participants will need to bring a packed lunch for Saturday; lunch is served in Stehekin at the boat company dock on the days that we sail (Friday and Sunday.) Other meals are included in trip fee (unless you don't like what I'm making for breakfast!) Also bring at least 1 quart water bottle, as well as snowshoes, boots and poles, outdoor winter clothing, and items to share with the group during our lodge time - games, good books and conservation stories. And don't forget a headlamp and flashlight for our night snowshoe foray!

If you are single and wish to share a same-gender room with another trip participant, please let leader know. Cost will be split between participants at $170 each. If you would like a private room, you will pay the same rate as for a couple as the lodging will be most of the trip cost.

Note the Lake Chelan boat sails at 10 am on Friday mornings. It is about a 4 hour minimum winter drive to Lake Chelan from the Seattle area, over SR 2 (Stevens Pass.) Travel by Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) and Blewett Pass (SR 97) will also get you to Lake Chelan and the boat dock.. Leader plans to stay in Lake Chelan the night before, for those that would like to carpool and stay over. There are a number of lodging options in Lake Chelan or nearby.

Contact leader Terese VanAssche to make your reservation. Note you must send the trip fee at least a week before the trip, by January 10 in order to hold a spot and be registered for this trip. You will need to send the trip fee of $325 per couple or $175 for a single to the leader with a SASE if you would like a trip brochure. Due to this being a holiday weekend, cancellations will forfeit half of your registration fee for the lodging, as we will not receive a refund from the Stehekin Log Cabins. Please contact Terese at terrasolutions@hotmail.com or 253-334-2157 to reserve your spot and for the address to send your reservation fee to. (MB/CH)
