Oyster Creek Blanchard Mountain Hike - National Trails Day (NOTE DATE CHANGE)

Join us on National Trails Day to hike through old-growth forest to spectacular views of the San Juan Islands from Blanchard Mountain's Oyster Dome.Total hike length is 6 miles RT. One section of the trail gains 1200 Ft. in 2 miles.
Late spring is the perfect time to visit this gem of the urban area hike south of Bellingham. A healthy climb along Oyster Creek will shake the spring rains out of your bones. Ferns are lush, big trees abundant, and wildflowers out for sighting. The Mt. Baker Group and Friends of Blanchard fought to preserve old-growth forest on these DNR lands.

Snohomish Group ~ Coal Creek Campground, South Fork Stillaguamish River.

A 'car-campout' family affair with easy day hikes and bike rides for children and old fogies (your leader). We may try to call for spotted owls near Red Bridge or look for beavers at dusk in Beaver Creek. Nearby is the Big Four Ice Caves. We may ride mountain bikes to Monte Cristo, explore the gold mining town site, Ore Concentrator, Sunday Falls, and J.D. Rockefeller's railroad turntable (which still works!). Possible hikes up to Mt. Dickerman, Fourth of July Lake and Boardman Lake.
Learn about the history of J.D. Rockefeller's railroad, the Pleistocene lake, current road construction issues on the Mtn. Loop Hwy and the proposed road into Monte Cristo. This road would cut through an old growth forest and is intended for clean up of toxic wastes left by gold miners over century ago. You will be serenaded to sleep by the croaking of Red-Legged Frogs looking for love in the nearby pond.
Sea Kayaking, July 8

Posted by Jacquie Powers
The Snoqualmie Valley Trail edges up to the Snoqualmie River here and there and sits on the flat top of the river dike as it winds it's way through the valley. Trees on both sides provide a lacy shade. Mileage between Carnation and Duvall is 9.2 mile ea. way. Trail is flat and is small packed gravel, fine for all types of bikes. Pace will be casual.
This would be a fine family outing as the trail never traverses any roads. We will leave from Duvall and rest in Carnation. Contact the leader for more information: Jacquie Powers powers.jacqueline@gmail.com
